Kamloops and Caffe Arianna

Hope to Kamloops: 204 km or 2 hours 19 mins. 620 km or 7 hours 48 mins remaining to Calgary.

The word Kamloops comes from the Shuswap word “Tk’emlúps”, meaning where the rivers meet. The rivers that are referred to are the North and South Thompson rivers where the indigenous people of British Columbia frequently came to hunt, fish, and gather food.

Eventually, the region became the home of the Thompson’s River Fur Trading Post named after David Thompson, the British-Canadian fur trader who surveyed and mapped most of the west.

Our only stop in the city was Caffe Arianna and Italian coffee shop and restaurant in the Lansdowne District. All the food here is made from scratch and Cristiana (the owner *I think*) was more than willing to help us adapt what was on the menu for our gluten/dairy/corn issues. The French toast with honey was worth the stop; simply mentioning it gives La Niña a dreamy look.

The coffee, on the other hand, is rather terrible and should be avoided.
