Maternal Affection, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge

Photography in the Fitzwilliam is prohibited everywhere except in the main hall. This was a bummer until I discovered that one of my favourite statues is in the main hall: Maternal Affection by Edward Hodges Baily.

The statue is white marble and depicts a loving scene between mother and child. I believe there are a few versions of this statue in other museums. I noticed that this particular version as a ring on the mother’s finger whereas others do not.
